One of Chardin’s rare oval-format still lifes, The Cut Melon (1760) features a halved cantaloupe balanced above a marble ledge, surrounded by peaches, plums, and liqueur bottles rendered with uncanny weight and luminosity. It is on view beginning May 22, 2025, in the Louis I. Kahn Building.
