Kerrville joined the Bird City Texas program in January 2025, earning recognition from Audubon Texas and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for efforts to protect birds and their habitat.
The designation connects conservation with everyday community choices: maintaining habitat, encouraging bird-friendly practices and helping residents learn about the birds around them. It also gives visitors another reason to notice the Hill Country’s natural surroundings.
Birdwatching can begin with a quiet walk, a pair of binoculars and patience. Native plants, thoughtfully managed outdoor lighting and respect for nesting areas can make homes and neighborhoods more welcoming to wildlife.
For Kerrville, the recognition is both a celebration and an invitation to continue the work. Residents and visitors can look for local bird walks, educational programs and volunteer opportunities, and take time to appreciate the birds that make the region their home or a stop on their journey.
