After a season of family gatherings and generous meals, a walk can be a welcome change of pace. The Hill Country offers a chance to move, enjoy the scenery and make time away from a busy schedule.
Regular physical activity, including brisk walking, can support heart health and well-being. Benefits are not limited to weight loss, and the results vary from person to person. A walk need not become a contest with the scale to be worthwhile.
Start with a route and distance that suit your abilities. A short, familiar path can be a better beginning than an ambitious hike. Bring water, wear comfortable footwear and check the weather and trail conditions before setting out.
As the habit becomes comfortable, explore a different trail or invite a friend along. Granite landscapes, river views and shaded paths offer different ways to experience the region. The goal is a routine you enjoy enough to return to.
